The Alternative Education Center provides RE-3(J) students an opportunity to earn credit in core subjects in a non-traditional setting. All Alternative Education Center students understand that the expectation is for them to attain standards and pass proficiency tests in all assigned subjects and then transition back to regular education.
All students must adhere to the following guidelines while enrolled in the Alternative Education Center. This specialized program demands different rules and/or regulations from that of a traditional setting to ensure the success of the students. It is important that the following guidelines are understood completely. Parents and students should feel free to ask questions they may have about the guidelines or the program at any time.
- Students will earn credit in core subjects only. They will have to pass semester exams or proficiency tests in order to obtain credit for classes being taken.
- Students will arrive and leave the Center on time. Excessive absenteeism or tardiness will not be tolerated. Any unexcused absence may result in dismissal from the program.
- Students will have all necessary materials with them every day.
- Students will be expected to work independently.
- Students will have homework on a regular basis. Homework assignments will be completed and turned in on time.
- All school rules addressed in the student’s handbook, including the dress code, will be observed in the Alternative Education Center.
- Students will show respect for teachers and other students at all times. Violence of any kind will not be tolerated.
- If a student is not showing respect or not cooperating with the request of any AEC staff member, parents will be called and the student will be sent home. Upon returning to school, the student will be put on a behavior/discipline contract.
- The predetermined length of time a student is to spend in the Alternative Education Center may be amended to best fit the needs of the student. Parents must also make arrangements in advance to have their child picked up in case of early dismissal for any reason.
- All terms of the expulsion or suspension period as determined by the Board of Education will remain in effect, if applicable. Transportation to and from the Alternative Education Center must be arranged by the parent/guardian.
- Shuttle bus service will be arranged for students on a case-by-case basis.
