New School Design ImageCommunity Meetings to Unveil School Designs

DAGs wrapping up
The Design Advisory Groups for Hudson elementary school and the new Lochbuie elementary school have each met over the course of the past 6 weeks. Each has established a general design for the schools. Hudson elementary will remain on the current site with the new classroom construction planned to attach to the existing gymnasium and cafeteria. The Lochbuie PK-2 grade school will be located in the Silver Peaks subdivision of Lochbuie, and unlike Hudson the design was not limited to any existing criteria.

Community Meetings
Community meetings have been scheduled to unveil the design work done by the DAGs, which included multiple community and staff members. The Hudson community meeting will take place on Thursday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Hudson Academy cafeteria.
The Lochbuie community meeting will take place on Thursday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lochbuie Elementary school cafeteria. Meetings will include visual images of the Silver Peaks site where the school will be located, site layouts, and exterior and interior images.

Soils & Surveying Services

The district has contracted with Lamp Rynearson to provide surveying services and CTL Thompson to provide geo-technical/soils reports at the new Lochbuie school site and the Hudson site. Because the Lochbuie PK-2 school is completely new and on an undeveloped site, considerable site and surrounding infrastructure work must be done. Surveying has been completed at the site, but coordination with other government entities and developers will be required through the planning and construction phases. The Hudson site surveying and soils reports have also been completed. Due to elevation changes, this site is somewhat challenging, and these challenges were considered during the design phase.

WCMS Front EntranceWCMS Renovations and Planning Underway
A Design Advisory Group was also established for the renovations at Weld Central Middle School, and their work will be completed in March. Renovations will include updated science labs, repurposed classrooms for art and STEM, and a kitchen remodel.

Deferred maintenance projects will also be completed such as parking lot repairs and HVAC improvements. Significant construction will likely not begin until into the next school year with completion expected prior to the start of the 2018-2019 school year. As an occupied site for renovations, safety of students and staff is the most significant consideration, so major work is likely to occur during the summer months.

Cardinal Community Academy Front EntranceCCA Update
The Advisory Committee at CCA has been meeting weekly with DOA Architecture and Fransen-Pittman. Plans are being made for new construction in the form of an addition to the main modular building. The goal of the committee is to find creative ways to provide extra space and provide necessary upkeep to our main building that will allow us to keep students in the facility for many more years. Design decisions have centered around the following identified key priorities for instructional programming and safety.

· Science lab that is
accessible to all grade levels
· Separate classrooms for art classes and
music/band classes
· Reconfigured space to allow for additional interventions, as well as middle school math
· Space for preschool program
· Safe and secure
