Call for Nominations of School Directors
The Board of Education of Weld County School District Re-3J in the County of Weld and Adams, State of Colorado, calls for nomination of candidates for school directors to be placed on the ballot for the regular biennial school election to be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
At this election, three directors will be elected for a term of office of four years and two directors will be elected for a term of office for two years. To be qualified, a candidate must have been a registered elector of the school district for at least 12 consecutive months before the election and must be a resident of the school district. A person is ineligible to run for school director if he or she has been convicted of committing a sexual offense against a child.
A person who desires to be a candidate for school director shall file a written notice of intention to be a candidate and a nomination petition signed by at least 50 eligible electors who are registered to vote in the regular biennial school election.
Nomination petitions may be obtained at the Weld Re-3J District Office, located at 1101 4th Avenue, Hudson, CO 80642 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Completed petitions shall be submitted to the Designated Election Official at the Weld Re-3J District Office no later than 4:30 p.m. on August 29, 2025.

Candidate Election Timeline*

- August 6, 2025: First day to pick up and circulate nomination petitions. Petitions will be available to pick up between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Weld Re-3J District Office, 1011 4th Avenue, Hudson, CO 80642.
- August 29, 2025, 4:30 p.m.: Deadline for school director candidates to file a nomination petition with circulators' notarized affidavits, notarized acceptance of nomination, and written notice of intent to be a candidate.
- August 29, 2025, 4:30 p.m.: Deadline for school director write-in candidates to file an affidavit of intent to be a candidate.
- November 4, 2025: Election Day

Nomination Procedure
Colorado election law requires all candidates to file a nomination petition with the school district's designated election official (DEO). Petitions will be available to pick up between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Weld Re-3J District Office, 1011 4th Avenue, Hudson, CO 80642 from August 6-29, 2025. Nomination petitions must be signed by at least 50 registered voters who live within the school district. It is highly recommended that candidates obtain more than the minimum number of required signatures in case some of the signatures are invalid. The deadline to submit nomination petitions to the designated election office is Friday, August 29th at 4:30 p.m.
Campaign Finance Filing Requirements

School board candidates must comply with the Colorado Fair Campaign Practices Act (FCPA). All candidates must file a candidate affidavit with the Colorado Secretary of State's office within 10 days of becoming a candidate. Candidates are also required to report contributions and expenditures through the Secretary of State's online TRACER ;program. These reports are required even if you spend $0.00 campaigning.

Running for School Board
A candidate for the Weld Re-3J Board of Education must be:
- A resident and a registered voter of the school district for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the election
- Not be convicted of a sexual offense against a child
- Because school director elections are nonpartisan, candidates may not run as a member of a political party
